Examples

Three example amounts which are instantly reformatted as you adjust the various options on this page. The idea is to give you a quick check on the effect of your proposed changes before trying them on the rest of the program data. If you are happy with the effect on the example figures, click Apply (at the bottom of the Preferences form) to see the effect on the figures in the program itself. If you then don't like the format changes click Cancel to undo them. If you are happy with the changes click OK to confirm.

Decimal places

Use the clickspin control to adjust the number of decimal places in all currency figures.

Thousands/Decimal separators

Use this control to choose between the two alternative conventions used in formatting thousands and decimals:

, /. - a comma separates the thousands, a period indicates the decimal point (default), or
. /, - a period separates the thousands, a comma indicates the decimal point.

Negative values

Choose how negative values should be displayed. There are two properties you can adjust here:

Color of negative values (default is red).
A minus sign can be displayed, e.g. -$123, or alternatively, the negative value can be enclosed in parentheses, e.g. ($123).

Watch the last example figure, which is negative, as you adjust these properties.

Select or edit currency symbol

Click the arrowhead to reveal a list of the main world currencies - click any one symbol to select it - or type in your own symbol. Whatever you type in will be placed in front of the currency values (or behind if you change the order using the Order of symbol, sign and value option).

For instance you could replace the symbol $ with the letters USD. Most currencies have three letter abbreviations (£ = GBP, € = EUR, ¥ = JPY), so even if a particular symbol is not available on your computer, you can still create a sequence of letters (5 max) to represent it.

Note: Changing the currency symbol does not cause the values to be converted to the new currency.

Tip:If you want to use your typed-in symbol as the program default don't forget to click the Save as default button - at the foot of the User Preferences form.

Use currency symbol

Clear this box only if you want values to be formatted without a currency symbol. By default this box is checked.

Order of symbol, sign and value

Using the dropdown list, click on your preferred way of ordering the currency symbol, the negative sign and the value:
