Expenditure

The value for Expenditure is set on the Account Details/Expenditure tab and represents an amount which is removed, each year, from the Primary Account. (If Inflation is ON the amount is increases in line with inflation rate.)

If Expenditure is synchronized with the budget, both Expenditure (on the Expenditure tab) and Rescaled Budget (on the Rescale Budget tab), will contain the same figure, which can be adjusted using the controls on either tab.

Expenditure adjusting controls

Using the set of scroll bar controls on Accounts/Expenditure tab you can quickly and easily alter the current value of Expenditure.

These controls allow you to make small, smooth adjustments to the value of Expenditure within an automatically set range. The range itself can also be manually reset using either of the two buttons to the right of the control.

Like the other major currency values in the program, the value of Expenditure can also be directly altered by editing its text box, or by using its associated spin control (see Editing currency amounts).

And when the Synchronize function is also engaged, the value of Expenditure synchronizes with the Rescaled Budget total on the Budget side of the program, showing graphically the interaction between income and budget total, over time - in the dual chart display .

Using the click button controls at the foot of the Expenditure tab, the current value of Expenditure can be instantly set to one of four preset values:

Original Budget
This is the value of the budget set on the Edit Original Budget tab, and is used as the basis for all rescaling operations.
Essential Expenses
This is the minimum value the rescaled budget can take, and when selected all discretionary (non-essential) expense categories will be set to zero.
Rescaled Budget
This is the value of the budget currently set on the Rescale Budget tab.
'Optimum' Expenditure
This figure always represents the 'optimum' expenditure for the current income data set on the various Accounts tabs (see Optimizing Expenditure).

Note: This button only sets Expenditure to the 'optimum' value once (when you click it)- it does not engage the Optimize function which, in addition to setting Expenditure to the optimum value now, also attempts to keep it optimized.
